Warpline

Navigate thirty-two circuits and eleven armed rivals in four unique worlds at blistering speed. An arcade racer for iPhone and iPad, where the fastest way through a bend is up the wall.

The racing line is up the wall

Lean hard enough into a bend and the craft climbs the side of the tube, where the wall does the cornering for you and the needle keeps going past anything the flat road will give. Hold it and you break Mach 1, and the screen rings like a struck bell.

It is the longer way round and it is faster, which is the whole game in one sentence. How far up the wall you can hold depends on how fast you are going, so the moment you lose pace the tube puts you back on the floor, usually about the time the pack catches up.

Everyone is armed

Guns, missiles, mines and an EMP, scraped off the road at two hundred metres a second. The gun runs hot, so emptying it into the car ahead locks it out until it cools, which is usually the moment he turns round. Your shields come back only if you find a repair before someone finds you, and the eleven cars around you want the same pickup.

These rivals do not cheat to keep up. Each one drives a small neural network trained on the circuits rather than a rubber band tethered to your bumper: they ride the wall themselves, they bait you into the barrier, and they will take you off it on the last lap if you have left them anything.

Four worlds, thirty-two circuits

Dusk over Kharon's city. Dawn in the Seraph desert. Nox in neon and rain. The polar ice of Boreas, where nothing grips. Eight circuits each, every one of them generated and then hand picked, and they get meaner as you go.

Arcade is one credit and nothing bolted on: podium or that is your run. Career keeps your garage between races, pays you on results, and makes you earn each world. Time trial is you, the clock and the ghost of your best lap.

Made by one person

The game, the engine under it and the circuits it generates are written from scratch in Rust, and it holds sixty frames a second on a phone with the whole field on screen. No adverts, no analytics, no accounts, and nothing that makes you wait or pay to keep playing. Game Center keeps the leaderboards and the achievements.

Kharon's eight circuits are free to race as often as you like. One purchase opens the other three worlds, in both Arcade and Career, and nothing else is ever sold.
